Description

Strawberry Rhubarb Jam is a delightful combination of sweet and tangy flavors using fresh strawberries, rhubarb, natural gelling agent, and natural ingredients. This easy homemade jam is perfect for spreading on toast, topping desserts, or gifting. Its fresh, vibrant flavor and simple preparation make it accessible for all skill levels and a versatile treat to enjoy any time.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 500g fresh strawberries, hulled and halved or quartered
  • 400g fresh rhubarb stalks, thinly sliced

Other Ingredients

  • 350g granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice (natural)
  • 1 drop vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 packet natural gelling agent

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fruit: Wash the strawberries and rhubarb stalks thoroughly. Hull and chop the strawberries into halves or quarters depending on size, then slice the rhubarb thinly for even cooking and easy mashing.
  2. Combine Ingredients in a Pot: Place the chopped strawberries and rhubarb in a large saucepan. Add the granulated sugar, lemon juice (natural), vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), and the natural gelling agent. Stir gently to blend everything evenly before heating.
  3. Cook the Jam: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer until the fruit softens and the mixture thickens to your desired consistency, about 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Test the Set: Place a small amount of jam on a chilled plate and run your finger through it. If it wrinkles and holds its shape, your jam is ready. If not, cook a few minutes longer and test again.
  5. Jar and Cool: Pour the hot jam carefully into sterilized jars, leaving a bit of headspace. Seal and let cool at room temperature before refrigerating or gifting.

Notes

  • Use ripe fruit for best flavor harmony.
  • Stir often to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.
  • Follow natural gelling agent package instructions closely to get the perfect texture.
  • Add lemon juice (natural) early in the cooking process to preserve vibrant color.
  • Sterilize jars properly by boiling for 10 minutes or using a hot dishwasher cycle before use.
