Description

Lemon Chicken is a quick and easy dish bursting with fresh, tangy citrus flavors combined with tender chicken. Perfect for busy weeknights, this recipe uses simple ingredients including fresh lemon juice and zest, garlic, olive oil, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural) to create a light yet filling meal. The bright lemon sauce is thickened with a natural gelling agent for a perfect glaze, and fresh herbs add a lovely finishing touch. Enjoy it with rice, salads, or roasted vegetables for a satisfying dinner or meal prep option.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (natural)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon natural gelling agent
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnishes

  • Fresh parsley or thyme, chopped
  • Thin lemon slices or extra lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper to lock in moisture and flavor.
  2. Sear the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. When shimmering, add the chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes each. Remove chicken from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make the Lemon Sauce: Reduce heat to medium. In the same pan, add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Pour in fresh lemon juice, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), honey or maple syrup (natural), chicken broth, and sprinkle the natural gelling agent while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  4. Simmer the Sauce: Let the sauce simmer gently until it thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes, forming a beautiful glaze.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked chicken to the pan. Spoon the sauce over the chicken and cook together for a few more minutes to allow the flavors to meld perfectly.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemons for the brightest flavor.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan to achieve a nice golden crust.
  • Let the chicken rest a few minutes after cooking to retain juices.
  • Adjust sweetness by tasting the sauce and balancing lemon tartness.
  • Sprinkle the natural gelling agent slowly to avoid clumping.
