Description

Ceviche is a bright and refreshing seafood dish featuring fresh citrus juice that naturally ‘cooks’ tender fish or shrimp. Combining zesty lime and lemon juice with crisp vegetables, fresh herbs, and mild heat from chili peppers, this easy and healthy appetizer is perfect for any occasion. Ready in under an hour, ceviche offers a light, flavorful, and customizable option for a quick summer lunch or elegant starter.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 300g firm, flaky fish such as seabass or snapper, diced
  • 200g shrimp, peeled and deveined

Citrus Marinade

  • 120ml fresh lime juice
  • 80ml fresh lemon juice

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled and diced
  • 1 handful fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped
  • 1 small chili pepper, minced (adjust to taste)

Seasonings & Oils

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the seafood: Select fresh fish and shrimp and dice into bite-sized pieces. Place them in a glass or ceramic bowl and pour lime and lemon juice over, ensuring the seafood is completely submerged. Refrigerate and marinate for 15 to 30 minutes until the seafood becomes opaque.
  2. Chop the vegetables and herbs: While marinating, finely dice tomatoes, red onions, and cucumbers. Chop cilantro or parsley and mince the chili pepper. These will add layers of freshness and texture.
  3. Combine and season: Drain some citrus juice leaving a little for flavor with the seafood. Mix seafood with the chopped vegetables and herbs. Add olive oil, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir gently until well combined.
  4. Chill and serve: Refrigerate the ceviche for another 10 to 15 minutes to blend the flavors. Serve chilled for the best refreshing taste experience.

Notes

  • Use the freshest seafood available for the best texture and flavor.
  • Ensure seafood is fully submerged in citrus juice for even marination.
  • Do not marinate for longer than 30 minutes to avoid tough seafood.
  • Keep ceviche cold during preparation and serving to maintain freshness and safety.
  • Adjust salt, pepper, and sauces after marination to suit your taste.
