Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups firm and tart apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (natural)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (natural), divided
  • 1 ½ cups plant-based milk
  • ¼ cup plant-based butter, melted, plus extra for greasing
  • 1 tsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp natural gelling agent
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (natural)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Peel and dice the apples into bite-sized pieces. Toss them lightly with cinnamon (natural) and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup (natural) to infuse the fruit with sweet, warm flavors.
  2. Mix the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine plant-based milk, melted plant-based butter, vanilla extract (natural), and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: Grease a baking dish with a little plant-based butter. Pour half of the batter into the dish. Evenly distribute the cinnamon-coated apples over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, covering the apples completely.
  4. Add the Natural Gelling Agent and Bake: Sprinkle the natural gelling agent evenly over the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 minutes until the casserole is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This resting time lets the flavors meld and achieves a pleasant texture.

Notes

  • Use fresh apples for the best texture and flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter to avoid a dense casserole.
  • Distribute apples evenly to ensure every bite has a cinnamon-rich surprise.
  • Follow instructions on the natural gelling agent packaging for best results.
  • Allow the casserole to rest for easier slicing and serving.
