Description

Hot Chocolate Bombs are a delightful plant-based treat perfect for chilly days, combining rich cocoa, natural sweetness, and a fun interactive experience. These creamy, melt-in-your-cup chocolate spheres filled with mini marshmallows and customizable flavors create a warm, comforting beverage that is easy and enjoyable to make and share.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup plant-based cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups plant-based chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons natural sweetener (like maple syrup or coconut sugar)
  • 1 cup milk alternative (almond, oat, or soy milk), warmed
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows (plant-based)
  • 1 teaspoon natural gelling agent

Optional Variations

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg (for spiced delight)
  • 1/4 teaspoon natural peppermint extract (for minty fresh flavor)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped smoked turkey bacon or toasted nuts (for nutty elegance)
  • 1 tablespoon plant-based caramel syrup (natural) (for caramel surprise)
  • 2 tablespoons freeze-dried berries or swirl of grape juice reduction (for berry burst)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Melt the Plant-Based Chocolate Gently melt your plant-based chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in short bursts in the microwave. Stir continuously until smooth to prepare for creating the bomb shells.
  2. Step 2: Coat the Molds with Chocolate Using a spoon or brush, evenly coat silicone sphere molds with a layer of melted chocolate. Place the molds in the refrigerator to harden completely, then repeat a second layer for a strong shell.
  3. Step 3: Fill Your Chocolate Shells Once the shells are firm, gently remove them from the molds. Fill half of the spheres with a spoonful of plant-based cocoa powder, mini marshmallows, natural sweetener, and any chosen optional variation.
  4. Step 4: Seal the Bombs Warm a plate slightly and press the empty chocolate shells onto the warm surface to melt the edges. Quickly seal each filled half with a matching empty shell, smoothing the edges together for a perfect seal.
  5. Step 5: Chill and Decorate Place your sealed Hot Chocolate Bombs back into the refrigerator until firm. Then decorate with extra drizzle of melted plant-based chocolate or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for an extra cozy look.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to ensure smooth melting and prevent the chocolate from seizing.
  • Double layer the chocolate shells to create a sturdy bomb that holds up to hot liquids without breaking prematurely.
  • Seal quickly by working fast when melting the shell edges to ensure a tight bond.
  • Choose high-quality plant-based cocoa powder for the richest and most flavorful drink.
  • Store your bombs in a cool, dry place to avoid melting or blooming chocolate.
