Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 slices smoked turkey bacon, cut into small strips
  • 1 medium green cabbage, chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup Fritos corn chips
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Seasonings and Sauces

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (natural)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (natural)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Chop the green cabbage into bite-sized pieces and slice the red bell pepper and green onions. Mince the garlic cloves. Cut the smoked turkey bacon into small strips or pieces for even cooking.
  2. Cook the Smoked Turkey Bacon: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the smoked turkey bacon and sauté until crisp and browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside, leaving the flavorful drippings in the skillet.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the chopped cabbage, sliced red bell pepper, and green onions. Stir frequently while cooking, allowing the vegetables to soften but remain slightly crisp, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  4. Add Seasonings and Liquids: Pour in the apple cider vinegar (natural) and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), then sprinkle smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the vegetables and let the flavors meld for 2 to 3 minutes over medium-low heat.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked smoked turkey bacon to the skillet and gently toss everything together. Remove from heat. Just before serving, sprinkle the Fritos corn chips on top to add a crunchy texture to the dish.

Notes

  • Use fresh, firm cabbage and vibrant vegetables for the best texture and flavor.
  • Do not overcook the cabbage; keep it slightly crisp to maintain pleasant crunchiness.
  • Reserve and use bacon drippings to enhance the flavor of sautéed vegetables.
  • Add salt and spices gradually to balance flavor without overpowering.
  • Add Fritos just before serving to keep them crunchy and fresh.
